Clemens Weisshaar was born in 1977 in Munich. After an apprenticeship as a metalworker, he studied product design at the London Saint Martins College of Art and Design and at the Royal College of Art and was an assistant to Konstantin Grcic
for three years before founding his first office for design 2000. In 2002, in conjunction with Reed Kram
he co-founded Kram/Weisshaar as a platform for theirmultidisciplinary activities. Working form Munich and Stockholm, they engage in the design of spaces, products and media in close collaboration with architects, engineers and curators. Kram/Weisshaar stands for the association of conventional production methods with the latest technological developments. The projects of Kram/Weisshaar represent a new form of integrated product and process development, and thus a new way of thinking design. Works by Kram/Weisshaar have been included in the most renowned design collections worldwide, namely the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have designed a set of seven individually painted service plates entitled MY PRIVATE SKY
for Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. When ordering, customers are requested to state their place and date of birth. On the basis of this data, a specially programmed application using NASA databases calculates the constellation of the stars at the respective place and time of birth. The stars are then painted by Nymphenburg's craftsmen and craftswomen onto the seven service plates. Customers therefore acquire an individual object on which the stars, constellations and nebulas created with platinum and 24-carat gold make up their own "personal" sky.
