Thanks to the designer, a native of Milan born in 1949, the family run firm of Prada, now in its third generation, has developed into one of the world’s most important luxury brands. In the early 1980s, the political science graduate took over the management of the business from her grandfather and has revolutionised the fashion world ever since. Together with her husband, Patrizio Bertelli, she pushed ahead with the international development of her company and brought innovative architects such as Rem Koolhaas and Herzog & de Meuron on board to plan her stylistic epicentres in New York, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
Miuccia Prada’s fashion exists in a global context. The multiple award winning designer detects cultural vibes as a seismograph does an earth tremor, and incorporates them into her work. Contemporary art also plays a crucial role here. In 1995 she founded the Fondazione Prada to cultivate the next generation of artists.
In 2006 Miuccia Prada designed a new look for the Corine figurine.
