A profusion of circular and spiral motifs arranged in formations bedecks Octavio from head to foot, indeed the base as well. Yet what looks at first glance like an integrated, homogeneous design does in fact have clearly differentiated parts. Ten pastel tones are allocated to motifs of different sizes and to different parts of the body and garments.

Octavio is one of the most gallant figures of Bustelli’s Commedia dell’Arte – a bashful character who blows kisses to his adored Isabella. With his knee-length breeches, waistcoat and justaucorps on top, he is the very image of the fashionable gentleman of his day. Maurizio Galante’s design distinguishes clearly between the different elements that made up male dress of the time. The breeches (green circles) are quite distinct from the waistcoat (pink circles) and the frock worn over it (warm yellow). At the same time, the repetitive basic pattern makes his appearance a harmonious whole, featuring the gathering and layering of fabrics so typical of Galante’s style. It also lends the overall shape fluidity.

The highest expectations of craftsmanship that are the inspiration for Galante’s collections are also evident in this design. Hardly any geometric shape is more difficult to draw freehand than a circle – and their accuracy and almost perfect implementation highlight the mastery of Nymphenburg’s porcelain painters.

Individual figures are only available with Limit No. 16 – 25. It is not possible to order specific numbers. The figures will be supplied with a certificate in a gift box specially designed for the collection.
