My Private Sky
Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram have created a hand-painted set comprising seven service plates entitled MY PRIVATE SKY for Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. Each service is unique: they show the night sky at the time the purchaser was born at his or her place of birth.
When ordering MY PRIVATE SKY, purchasers must tell Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg not only where they were born but also the time and date of their birth. A computer program developed especially by the designers calculates the purchaser's personal star chart. This specific star chart is converted into a set of drawings that the porcelain painters at Nymphenburg use to apply the painting. Thus the designers place a digital assistant at the craftsmen and craftswomen's disposal that combines the potential of modern software with the high art of porcelain painting. Around 500 stars, nebulas, planets and constellations are painted entirely by hand onto the plates of each service.
MY PRIVATE SKY is issued in a limited edition of 100 + 10 unique objects. Each set consists of seven service plates, the drawings on which the paintings on the plates were based and a hand-painted legend. The entire set is supplied in a handmade storage box made from poplar.
