What is special about Nymphenburg porcelain?

All patterns are hand painted which makes each piece unique – thus creating stable value and stimulating collectors’ interest. Vignettes and transfers are used in industrial production – but never at Nymphenburg. Each of the painters with their decades of training possesses the artistic skills to paint the motifs as required by the respective pattern.

What does manufacturing at Nymphenburg actually mean?

“Manu factum” at the workshops in Nymphenburg really means: made ENTIRELY by hand. Each plate is turned by hand, each vase is cast by hand, each ornament is individually applied. Nymphenburg even purchases its raw materials individually. It doesn’t use sourced porcelain paste or paints. Each piece of work is based on individually coordinated porcelain mass as well as paint from the manufactory’s own laboratories in order to ensure a quality and purity that remains unrivalled in the world.

Where is Nymphenburg porcelain made?

Porcelain services, figures and objects of the greatest quality and purity have been produced at just one location in the world – the Nördliches Schlossrondell in Nymphenburg – since the 18th century.

Who owns Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg?

In 1747, Elector Max III Joseph of Bavaria established the Electoral Porcelain Manufactory at his hunting lodge in Neudeck outside Munich. Eight years later, his cousin, Elector Carl Theodor, awarded the privilege to operate the Porzellan Manufaktur Frankenthal. The two manufactories were merged under the patronage of the Wittelsbach family in Nymphenburg in 1800. Today, the manufactory is owned by the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichfond (Wittelsbach Equalising Fund) whose assets range from art treasures, and historically important collections to holdings and landed properties. These include, among other things, Schloss Berg on the banks of Lake Starnberg, Schloss Hohenschwangau, Schloss Berchtesgaden, works of art in the treasury at the Munich residence, the Pinakothek, the Glyptothek and the Bavarian National Museum.

Can I have special pieces made at Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg?

Yes, Nymphenburg has a specially dedicated department for realising even the most unusual of customer requests. The artists at the manufactory design and paint finely crafted personalised services – to match the interior designs of customers’ homes – be they baroque palaces, alpine country houses or modern loft conversions. The services for Schloss Meseberg, the Federal Republic of Germany’s new guesthouse, for embassies in Germany and other countries as well as for royal families are produced at Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg just as much to individual specifications as are the services for the super yachts owned by prominent celebrities. We even still produce individual colour palettes at our paint laboratory for aristocratic families and discerning customers.

Can I complement inherited dinner services by Nymphenburg?

Nymphenburg sets are frequently passed on from one family generation to the next. As a customer, you have the unlimited right to purchase items from the set, in other words, you can add a few pieces at any time. Because each piece is made by hand, you can also order historic shapes and patterns – even if they haven’t been available in the shops for decades. And if it is a custom piece, you can still use the colour palette developed for you at the time.

How can I recognise Nymphenburg porcelain at auctions and in antique shops and so on?

Each item from Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg may be identified and dated by the clear mark on the bottom – the maker’s mark, which is the Wittelsbach diamond-shaped coat of arms, as well as the personal mark of the potter, former and painter who produced it. Collectors’ catalogues, good porcelain shops and the manufactory will provide assistance in identification.

How can I find out in which year my Nymphenburg service was made?

Is it possible to restore Nymphenburg porcelain?

We do not recommend that severely damaged items be restored when individual pieces need to be replaced and painted by hand. Reproductions frequently cost less than time-consuming restorations. Nymphenburg possesses an archive with more than 20,000 historic and contemporary designs and we are thus able to reproduce any historic piece of porcelain.

Is it possible to hire Nymphenburg porcelain for special occasions?

If you want to enjoy your wedding menu from noblest porcelain, it is also possible to hire Nymphenburg table services for up to 50 people, including centrepieces, by the day. Please contact our Customer Service directly.

How do I care for glazed Nymphenburg porcelain?

Survival formula for fragile pieces: recent hand-painted crockery may be cleaned in dishwashers, but only on a gentle setting and only if the machine is carefully filled. It is recommended that you use the cleaner specified for your dishwasher sparingly. Take particular care with the placing of the handles when filling the dishwasher. Pieces from historic and very valuable services should be washed separately in hand-warm water with a soft sponge – and dried as soon as possible as otherwise lime scale will appear. Vibrations occur in all houses. And so to prevent plates from knocking against each other in the cupboard, pieces of felt should be laid between them.

And how should biscuit porcelain be properly treated?

Biscuit porcelain is sintered in a second firing (glost firing) at around 1400°C. This firing compacts the porcelain material in such a way that no impurities are able to penetrate. Surface dirt may be removed with soap and water, obstinate dirt may be removed with cleaning solvent or spirits. Granulate cleaners and metal scourers should be avoided.

There are several ways of shopping on the website. Either select a category, such as, for example, figurines or jewellery, or look for a specific article using the search field on the top left.

Shopping by category
When you click on a category (for example, animals) on the left-hand side of the screen you will see a list of sub-categories: Bavarian lions, dogs, horses, etc. Some of the categories are sub-divided further still; the Birds category is, for example, sub-divided into “Painted” and “Biscuit”.

When you select and click on a category, in addition to the image on the right the first six articles in the category then appear. In order to get the details on

an article, simply click on it.

How to find a specific article
You can look for a specific article using the search field. There is a search field on every page, located in the top left-hand corner.

Article availability and delivery time

When you place an article in the shopping cart you will be told whether it is available for immediate delivery or has to be manufactured specially for you. The anticipated delivery lead time for the item on order is around 3 months. As a rule, we transfer all articles that are readily available for delivery to the freight forwarder within two working days. Articles ordered that need first to be produced will be delivered in full after completion. Should your article be ready earlier or become available again elsewhere, then we will deliver it to you after consulting you first by email or phone.

Our

products are manufactured exclusively by hand using traditional methods. For this reason we cannot provide you with a binding delivery date. Should we set a definite date for an individual delivery we shall inform the customer immediately as soon as it becomes evident that there will be a delay of

more than six weeks. The customer shall then be entitled in writing, by fax or in electronic form to set a period of grace of at least six weeks after the date originally set for delivery, after expiry of which he shall be able to refuse to accept the delayed delivery.

Prices

The prices listed include statutory German value added tax at the current rate, which in accordance with EU guidelines also applies for the other EU countries.

Method of payment

You can pay for your entire order by cash in advance or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Amex), and can do so when you complete your order in the web shop.

If you would prefer not to input your card information on the website, please contact our sales support staff Mon.-Fri. between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on +49 (89) – 179 197 67, who will be glad to take your order by phone.

You guarantee that you are the owner of the credit card being used. All credit card owners are subject to validity checks and approval by the card issuer. We are unable to accept the order if the card issuer refuse approval of the payment. In such cases we are not liable for any delay or non-delivery, nor are we obliged to inform you of the reasons for the card issuer’s refusal. We assume no coverage of fees which your card issuer or bank might charge you in connection with the credit card payment, in particular on account of a transaction abroad.

Delivery and forwarding costs

The goods are transported by freight forwarding companies we select. The transport to the customer as well as any possible return deliveries are insured by us.

When the goods are handed over to the freight forwarding company we inform you of the package number of the consignment by e-mail. This way you can track the delivery online and plan acceptance of the consignment better. Please note that we do delivery to post office boxes or package deposit stations.

As far as possible the porcelain is packed in a gift box in the transport packaging. You are not charged for the gift box or packaging.

Within the European Union: Per package we charge for postage fee 10,00 Euro.

Express and Saturday deliveries are on principle possible. The costs for these vary. In such cases please contact us.

Please note: Deliveries outside the European Union are not processed through our web shop. Special regulations with regard to value added tax and customs duty apply, and there are also individual costs for dispatch and insurance against breakage. In such cases we request you to contact our Customer Services department.

Gifts and personal greetings

You are able to state a different delivery address. In this case the invoice will be sent to you and not enclosed with the package. As a rule, with the exception of large bulky articles and service the articles are always dispatched in the Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg gift box. We will be glad to enclose personal greetings if you so wish. Please contact us in such cases.

Procedure on receipt of goods and when unpacking

Check the package for possible damage through mechanical impact and ensure the deliverer takes note of it. Without force carefully remove the packaging material surrounding the porcelain. With figures pay attention to the delicate fingers, as well as the fine ribbons and bows etc. Check carefully to ensure no small pieces are left in the packaging.

Inform us immediately if there is any damage. Keep the broken pieces and the packaging for processing the insurance claim.

What must I do if returning goods?

The consignment contains a return slip with the information needed. The freight forwarding company will then collect the goods from you.

Should, for time reasons, you wish to send the package back yourself, please ask us for a DHL sticker.

Right of return

You can return the goods without stating any reason within two weeks by sending them back. The time limit commences on receipt of the instructions regarding return in text form (e.g., as letter, fax, e-mail), however not before the recipient has received the goods. It is sufficient if the goods or the request to return goods is filed with us in good time to:

The return of the goods is at our risk and cost.

Consequences of a return:
In the event of an effective return the mutually rendered services shall be respectively returned and any possible benefit derived be declared (e.g., advantages through use). In the event of deterioration of the goods, the Manufaktur is hereby authorised to be able to demand compensation. This shall not apply should the deterioration of the goods be exclusively attributable to their inspection, as would have been possible, for example, in a retail outlet. Otherwise, the customer can avoid the obligation to pay compensation for the deterioration of goods used in a manner appropriate to their purpose, by not using the goods as your property and desist from anything that affects their value. Obligations for the reimbursement of payments shall be fulfilled within 30 days. For the customer, the time

limit shall commence with the dispatch of the goods or the return demand, and for us on their receipt.

Exclusion of revocation:
The right of return shall not apply to goods manufactured according to the customer’s specifications (e.g., with personal monogram) or if you are an entrepreneur and conducting commercial or self-employed activities.

Data protection and website security

When you place an order with us we collect specific personal data, for example your name, your postal address, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and credit card numbers. We use this information to identify you as a customer, take your order, deliver the products, process payments, keep our documents up to date and manage your account with us. Furthermore, on request we will send you information about our products (Newsletter).

Your data are forwarded to service providers if these carry out certain assignments on our behalf, e.g., payment processing and dispatching goods. We only make available to these companies such data asthey need to perform their services and are not given approval to use the data for other purposes. These companies can only use your data in line with our instructions and in accordance with the stipulations of data protection legislation.

Security advice
Personal data inputted on the website and credit card transactions made online are transmitted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology via a safe server. Should the URL change from “http” to “https”, the “s” indicates that you are in a safe area, for which an SSL protocol is used. Inn addition, by means of a pop-up window your browser can draw your attention to the fact that you are in a secure area.

With this encoding technology our website protects your personal information during data transmission. With SSL information about your order, e.g., your name, address and credit card number is encoded. Our Customer Services Department and our retail outlets are also operated using a confidential, secure network. Your attention is drawn to the fact that e-mails are not encoded and are not a secure transmission method for credit card numbers.
