Shakira presented with the Unicef Award made of Nymphenburg porcelain
The 2009 special UNICEF award was made by Nymphenburg. "Fama", an angel based on Roman mythology designed by Franz Anton Bustelli around 1762, sees the world with 1000 eyes and conveys its message with 1000 voices and the sound of a trumpet to the world. Shakira was presented with the award on 21 September by UNICEF CEO, Regine Stachelhaus. She also presented the singer, who has also received many Grammy awards, with the special "Children's Rights" award.
"I get really annoyed when I see that in many countries education is a luxury and not a birth right," said the singer at the Burda Live event in Offenburg. She called on the industrialised nations to increase their spending on global education projects in developing countries.
Shakira has been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF – the United Nation's Children's Fund – since October 2003. With such projects as her Barefoot Foundation, she works towards giving children all over the world free access to the best possible school education. More than 2,600 children attend the five schools founded by Shakira.
Shakira is currently in the international music charts with her single, "She Wolf".
