CULA opening with Olaf Nicolai
On Wednesday, 25 May 2011, the porcelain manufactory presented the new CULA art edition by Olaf Nicolai for the first time. The opening event with the Berlin-based artist saw some 100 art enthusiasts, collectors and journalists gather at the art society.
The edition includes a tea service for one person with tray, teapot and tea bowl made of black biscuit porcelain, which can also be used as a prop in a performance: Included in the CULA service is a book with a short story about coral gardens and their magic which can be read to oneself or indeed read out to someone over a cup of tea, the tea service itself playing a role in the story.
The text which was compiled by a team of five authors (Paul Feigelfeld, Olaf Nicolai, Jan Verwoert, Jan Wenzel and Eva Wilson) was acted out as an audio piece as part of the presentation and read by Slaven Waelti.
