Duke Franz of Bavaria

Born in Munich on 14 July 1933.

Lives in Munich.

Following the death of his father in 1996, Duke Franz of Bavaria became the head of the Wittelsbach family. Besides his many representative tasks, he has followed the Wittelsbach tradition and has dedicated himself to the arts and sciences.

As a member of the board of trustees for the Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, a member of the board of trustees for the German Museum and, since 1999, Member of the Academy of Sciences, he does a lot of work for the natural sciences. He is also chairman of the Society for the Promotion of the Alte Pinakothek, vice-chairman of the Munich Gallery Society and, as a result of the depth of his understanding of the arts, was appointed chairman of the International Council of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg has been associated with HRH, the Duke Franz of Bavaria since 1996.

Since 1999 and entirely in line with the beginnings of Nymphenburg, new designs by internationally famous artists and designers have been presented each year – a fruitful cooperation which will be further expanded in the future.
