Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria

Born in Munich on 18 May 1869.

Died in Leutstetten on 2 August 1955.

Rupprecht was the last crown prince of Bavaria. As the commander-in-chief of the German 6th Army, he had seen active service in World War I. Although he lost his claim to the throne at the proclamation of the Munich Räterepublik, he continued to be called King of Bavaria by those loyal to the crown.

As an opponent of the national socialists, he participated in the 1932 / 33 attempts to establish a government with the aim of preventing the nazi take-over of power. Due to his clear anti-national-socialist position, he was forced into exile in Italy in 1939. His wife and children survived to the end of the war in concentration camps. When Crown Prince Rupprecht died at the age of 86 in 1955, he was buried with royal honours at the Theatinerkirche in Munich.
