Gilding
Finishing at Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg is exclusively effected with platinum and 24-carat fine gold – which are considerably thicker than bright gold. In this way, Nymphenburg ensures that the designs are of the highest quality and durability. The gilded areas and platinum ornamentations are dull and lacklustre when they leave the kiln and so must subsequently be buffed up with the help of agate and haematite. Polishing takes three times as long as the application of the design. It is only now that the porcelain possesses the properties so characteristic of Nymphenburg: the white porcelain that contrasts with the brilliance and polish of the gold and platinum.
