    Containers and bowls

A peek into the curiosities cabinets of the 18th and 19th centuries tells us of the meteoric rise of jewellery boxes and richly decorated trinket boxes. Admittedly, they are not really essential. And yet boxes have a magical appeal for us. Firstly, because each tends to be a miniature artwork in itself, made of fine materials such as gold, silver, horn or porcelain, and is lovingly cast, moulded, decorated and painted. Especially small models are often lovely to hold and sit wonderfully in your hand, but are of course also somewhere safe to keep valuable items. For whatever is kept in one of these boxes is worth protecting. It holds trinkets that merit our notice. Like the box itself.
