For over 200 years, this figure was considered lost. It was not until 1992 that the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum München bought the “Chinese Man Kowtowing” at an auction in London. Taking their cue from this historical model, the craftsmen were able, in a complex process, to reconstruct the figure. As in the Rococo period, the decoration on the vestments now gleams in the characteristically splendid colours of the Chinoiserie figures: Elegant purple, lemon yellow and blue.
