Putti · White · Apollo (sun)

    Product number 00.886
    Detail Ivory, glazed
    Design Franz Anton Bustelli, 1755/57
    Height 14 cm

In the 18th century putti were very popular. The variety on offer during the Rococo period in terms of representations of small deities inspired both artists and society, whose illustrious focal point these allegorical boys and girls became. The figure of Apollo displays particular radiance. Franz Anton Bustelli modelled the god of light and the arts in a classic pose in 1755-7. He is holding up the sun disk in his right hand and resting casually on his lyre, a gift from Mercury, with his left.
