    Design Franz Anton Bustelli, 1755/57
    Height 20 cm

When Franz Anton Bustelli designed a series of putti in 1755-7 as table decorations for Prince Elector Max III Joseph, he made a key decision, or so we assume today, looking back: Only those promising Bavaria a golden age could become heroes or child deities. Apollo was lucky. The Bavarians would not give up their patron, the god of light and the arts. Apollo is holding the sun disk high above his head in his right hand, while he is casually resting on his lyre with his left.
