    Design Franz Anton Bustelli, 1755/57
    Height 12 cm

Money can’t buy you happiness. Fortuna has to learn that, too. In this figurine, designed around 1755-7, Franz Anton Bustelli positions the childlike goddess of happiness kneeling on a sphere – as a symbol of changing fortunes. She tries to keep her balance by means of a scarf drifting in the wind. At her feet, at the edge of the base, there is a pouch of gold coins, a symbol of wealth’s transience. A current gift with great symbolic value.
