    Sacred figures

Nymphenburg discovered porcelain as a material for sacred figures very early on – the porcelain white imparts a transcendental character to the figures and thus is highly suitable for religious depictions. Usually produced for royal commissions, these figures count among the most outstanding artistic creations by Nymphenburg. Particularly Franz Anton Bustelli's CRUCIFIXION GROUP and Ignaz Günther's CRUCIFIX are evidence of the extraordinary skills in composition and finishing. Following the original rococo models, they continue to be produced at Nymphenburg to this day – as unlimited editions from the 18th century.
