Artistic chrysanthemums freely modelled by hand from wafer-thin porcelain possess a long tradition at Nymphenburg. Some archive samples date back to the 18th century. But these were much smaller than the almost originally sized flowers created in 2009 whose fine branches bring out the play of light so typical of porcelain particularly well. Nymphenburg has introduced the filigree flower – which in Japan enjoys the status of being the national flower – in a limited edition of 25 encased in ornamental wooden boxes. The chrysanthemums are modelled precisely to nature. Each of the more than 300 petals, each filament, each delicate stem is applied individually and shaped into blossoms at Nymphenburg's modelling shop – by porcelain masters who have undergone special training and who possess an anachronistic degree of patience.
