Adonis
Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg owes one of its most important services produced in the 20th century to the architect and designer, Wolfgang von Wersin. At the beginning of the 1930s and within just a very short period of time, this pioneer of the "New Objectivity" style had already created three services – ADONIS, HELIOS and LOTOS – which to this day still count among the most beautiful the company has ever produced.
Created in 1932 as a coffee service, the ADONIS form was also included as a food service in the company's repertoire in 1951/56. The light breaking in the finish's finely grooved relief and the play of shadows makes the service appear almost translucent. The minimalist painting emphasises the simplicity of the modern shape's structure.
