Brokat

A fine gold lace edge borders the colourful and formal painting on the Cumberland service with its lavish bouquets, single blossoms, butterflies and insects. The painting, created by Joseph Zächenberger in 1765 by electoral command, is regarded as the most complex flower pattern in the world that is to this day still painted by hand on porcelain. Over the years, the rich painting has been complemented by simpler versions that have sometimes even been reduced to decorations on the borders of the service pieces with the aim of drawing the eye to the artistic details. The new Brokat Gold range focuses the gaze on the gold lace edge, a particularly filigree detail of the historic design whose beauty now especially comes into its own.

Nymphenburg also produces the pattern with the classical lace edge in pure platinum. Here, the painting demands great sensitivity and highest precision: once the fine platinum ornaments have been applied, the individual pieces are fired and then polished with agate and burnishing stones.
