    Global Service

The British designer, Barnaby Barford, is known for provocative and ironic creations, which he already liked to realise in ceramics and porcelain during his time at university in Faenza and London. Barford designed the GLOBAL SERVICE for Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg as a series of 14 plates that combine to produce a map of the world. They take up the original idea of table decorations as conversation pieces: as porcelain objects which help table guests unfamiliar with each other to enter into conversation. The "bird’s-eye" view of Barford's GLOBAL SERVICE permits the abstraction of individual continents and the marking of political borders from a distance while directing the eye to the "whole". The signed artist edition is limited to 25 sets per colour.
