Ibis Terra – a different coloured version of the historical design by Wolfgang von Wersin – is based on a colour formula that was specially developed at Nymphenburg's master workshops in the 1930s. The new formula solved the difficulties of using shades of red in the production of porcelain – red usually burns away in temperatures that are too high. The coloured surfaces on the re-launched service are framed by engraved bands made from 24-carat gold. The gold bands have been applied in several layers by hand using traditional complex techniques and then fired and subsequently polished with agate and burnishing stones.
