Tobias Rehberger is one of the most important contemporary artists in Germany. The oeuvre of the sculptor, born in 1966, is characterised by a variety of media; it combines painting, sculpture, design, graphics and architecture. He creates sculptures, installations, posters, paintings and entire environments from a wide variety of materials and generates a spectrum of topics that ranges from optical illusions and identity games to questions of transience. The creation process itself is often the focus of his art. For the redesign of the café-bar in the Giardini of the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, he received the Golden Lion for the best artist. His project “24 Stops” has been connecting two neuralgic points of aesthetics since 2016: the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein and the Fondation Beyeler in the Swiss town of Riehen.
