Joseph Wackerle was one of the outstanding artistic personalities of the 20th century. Among other things, the manufactory has him to thank for a series of magnificent majolica birds, which the artist designed in 1910 for the world exhibition in Brussels. These large parrot, macaw, and cockatoo figures were designed in a new way, which drew on the garden sculpture of the 18th century. The gloriously colourful sculptures still grace the ornamental courtyard of the botanical garden in Munich today.
