The beginning is half the battle

LET THERE BE LIGHT

Turning towards beauty is a form of resistance, a quiet protest in a noisy world. That’s more or less what a recent concert review said. Indeed, we all too often focus on things that clamour for attention in a garish way, stumbling upon things that are unpleasant. That is why, in this newsletter, we are deliberately directing our attention to quiet magic – to the things that delight the eye and warm the heart. We wish you a wonderful weekend!

NORTHERN LIGHTS
In Denmark, people celebrate the summer solstice with Midsummer bonfires and sing the song “Midsommervisen” by the light of the flames. This year, Charlotte Lynggaard is also celebrating this time of light, new beginnings and life with a new collection: For the first time, the jewellery designer and Creative Director of the luxury jeweller Ole Lynggaard, founded in 1963, has developed a collection made of porcelain. The daughter of the company’s founder lived at the workshop for a time and worked closely with the artisans to shape and paint pendants and candlesticks by hand. Inspired by nature and imbued with the conviction that true luxury is born of time and craftsmanship, each of these limited-edition pieces bears witness to a deep understanding of tradition and the extraordinary.

The collection is available exclusively at the Ole Lynggaard store in Copenhagen and, from 16 June, at the flagship store in the Bayerischer Hof in Munich.

STARLIGHT
Endless expanses – that’s what you’ll find in the universe. If you look up now, the sky will be particularly sparkling on 15 June. This is due to the super new moon, which brings us one of the darkest nights of the year – ideal for observing stars or the Milky Way even without a telescope. The downside: you always run the risk of straining your neck whilst searching for the large stars Westerlund or Stephenson 2-18 amongst the 100 billion sparkling celestial bodies. If you want to avoid neck strain, turn your gaze towards the cupboard. With the platinum finishes from the Perl Schwarz or Lotos ranges, a celestial firmament awaits you there on earth – a rare and breathtaking sparkle that owes its lustre to the skilled polishers at the manufactory, who use agate and bloodstone to bring out its brilliance.

A GLIMMER OF HOPE
One place that really brings home the concept of beginning and end is undoubtedly the garden. Anyone who has ever planted hundreds of bulbs full of hope, only to find, after months of waiting, that instead of a sea of flowers there is at best a scrawny little plant; anyone who has been intoxicated by the scent of angelica, only to discover that a single downpour simply washes the white flowers away; who sows and waters, weeds and measures soil pH levels, all to finally, finally taste their first home-grown tomato – knows from personal experience the magic, patience and capriciousness that paradise entails. The dandelions of the Lotos collection capture the delicacy of this structure – with every little seed head that detaches from the flower stalk, a seed flies away, carrying with it the hope of a new beginning.
