An extraordinary collaboration unites artisanal perfection with contemporary jewelry design: the renowned porcelain manufactory Nymphenburg and the New York-based jewelry label Marla Aaron present an exclusive collection that reinterprets the manufactory’s intricate Cumberland decor in wearable jewelry pieces.
The idea for this unique partnership grew from a long-standing connection: “The way things are done differently here—the precision and thought in every single detail—astounded me from the very beginning,” says Marla Aaron, founder of Marla Aaron, about her first encounter with Nymphenburg.

In 2022, during a visit to the manufactory’s archives, she chose one of Nymphenburg’s most artful patterns: Cumberland. This delicate, hand-painted Rococo design inspired the designer to translate traditional aesthetics into the world of modern, functional jewelry—a harmonious interplay of elegance and innovation.
“Hand-painting on porcelain is an endangered art form that more people should come to know and appreciate. Jewelry as a medium gives it new visibility and preserves this mastery for future generations,” Aaron continues. Just like the porcelain objects crafted at the manufactory, every jewelry design in this collection is meticulously handmade. The focus lies not only on aesthetics but also on functionality—a parallel that unites both houses.

Marla Aaron

Marla Aaron is regarded as a pioneer of a new, functional maximalism in jewellery design. What began in 2012 with her now-iconic reinterpretation of the carabiner lock in precious metals has since evolved into a comprehensive collection:
rings and bracelets that open and close, convertible earrings, charms and other wearable objects – some of which are patented and range in price from USD 100 to over 300,000. “Jewellery has only one purpose: to bring joy to as many people as possible.” This guiding principle continues to shape the work of her house today.

Porcelain Manufactory Nymphenburg

Nymphenburg is the last remaining Reinstmanufaktur of its kind. Since its founding in 1747, the manufactory of the Bavarian Royal Household has upheld the fine art of porcelain making. To this day, manu factum – made by hand – means exactly that: Every piece is crafted entirely by hand, using techniques that have been passed down and preserved through generations.
