Model and mold archive
More than 30,000 molds are stored in the model and mold archive at Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. This is where the historical templates for figures and dinnerware are catalogued in order to preserve artistic originality and capability of reproduction. The porcelain objects can only be made if the original models are still available. For the production of the porcelain items, a mold is made of plaster of paris from the original positive model. This mold is then cast in porcelain After 15 to 20 casts the details are washed out and the molds must be replaced. Many of the master models are no longer part of the standard repertoire, but can be reproduced on request.
