Table decoration initiates conversation

The British designer Barnaby Barford is known for provocative and ironic designs, which he already realized in ceramic or porcelain while studying design in Faenza and London. For Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg, Barford designed the Global Service, a series of 14 plates which, when put together, create a map of the world. They originate from the original idea of table decorations as conversational pieces: as porcelain objects through which unknown table guests can initiate conversations with each other. Because the view “from above” on Barford's Global Service allows to abstract from the distance of individual continents and markings of political boundaries and instead to look at the “big picture”. The signed artist edition is limited to 25 sets per colour.
