Description

Both Hella Jongerius' tableware Nymphenburger Skizzen and her animal bowl series reflect an elaborate examination of the artistic history of Porzellan Manufaktur Nymphenburg. In these collections, she unites shapes, figures and decors from different epochs and backgrounds with playful ease. Jongerius selected eight designs from the manufactory's historical treasure trove of around seven hundred animal figures and placed them in simple bowls. The naturalistic depiction of the snail, bird, hippopotamus, deer, rabbit, frog, fox and dog was complemented by a pattern from the Nymphenburg decor archive including patterns that were originally intended for a soup tureen or depicted the plumage of a guinea fowl.
