Description
Description
A rare and distinctive work, rooted in the Bavarian cultural tradition and the sculptural tradition of Nymphenburg.
Josef Wackerle was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in May 1880. He initially studied at the woodcarving school, then attended the School of Applied Arts in Munich, and finally the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
Upon his return, he presented his first model, Lady with a Muff, to the management of the Nymphenburg Manufactory, who immediately recognized the sculpture's artistic value and invited the artist to join them. His second model was Lady with Crossed Legs, which particularly interested the artist because the lady had one "masculine" leg. The third model followed as a counterpart to this one: Lady with a Monkey.
