IN MOTION

STEP BY STEP

The elderly couple from the neighbouring house take to the street every evening when the temperatures are cooler. He always walks a few steps ahead of her, she a few metres behind, because he wants to greet a cat, admire a flower or simply catch his breath for this twilight stroll. The Italians have elevated the passeggiata to a cultural asset for good reason: strolling, looking, chatting here and there without a particular destination is good for body and soul. Aristotle already knew that movement is conducive to thinking. That's why we're also on the move in this newsletter, travelling to the far north, parading towards Great Britain and going on an animal exploration tour. But please stay seated for a while to read. Have a great Sunday!

IN LOCKSTEP

It is only a march of around two kilometres, but it attracts the world's attention every year. Trooping the Colour, the parade in honour of the British monarch, has been taking place since the 17th century and is considered an official birthday celebration. If you weren't there live on the Mall of London yesterday, why not celebrate today? The dress code for spectators is ‘lounge suit’, which is not a go for jogging trousers. Elegant daywear is the order of the day for an appropriate tea party, and the table is set in pure china white like the gloves of the parade uniforms. As a tribute to King Charles, two royal favourites can be added to the arrangement: delphinium and fruit cake.

HUNTING HABITS

By law, Charles III owns all the sturgeons, swans and dolphins in the country, as well as a Lagotto Romagnolo called Snuff, chickens, horses and all kinds of exotic gifts. Compared to the British monarch, who himself travels tens of thousands of miles a year, the king of animals seems almost lazy. The lion walks ten to 20 kilometres a day, enough to satisfy any fitness tracker. The hippopotamus is a self-confessed non-runner and prefers to spend 16 hours a day bobbing around in the water, which doesn't leave much time for running: A maximum of two kilometres a day is possible. The snail has a good excuse for its small radius of one to two metres, after all it carries a house around with it (the nudibranch's excuse is still pending). Elephants have a large territory and are extremely hungry, which is why they cover around 20 kilometres a day. If an Arctic tern were to observe them, they would just turn up their beaks. With 96,000 kilometres flown per year, it is the top performer in the animal kingdom.

ON EXPEDITION

At Nymphenburg, we display almost hippopotamus-like behaviour and work eight hours or more a day in one place. When we leave this unique place and travel over 1100 kilometres, it's for a special reason. Next week we are travelling to Copenhagen for the ‘3 Days of Design’. In the inner courtyard of the Harsdorff Hus, an architectural highlight, we will celebrate Mittsommar on a 12 metre long table with plates from the Perl and Adonis series, tiles, candlesticks, egg vases and figurines. We look forward to seeing you in the city from 18 to 20 June, it's well worth it! Incidentally, ‘Man oft Parts’ will be displaying the right furniture to showcase porcelain treasures in the neoclassical rooms of the building. Be sure to cycle through the city afterwards. Nyhavn with its countless restaurants is literally around the corner, but we prefer the somewhat quieter ‘Amalie’ with its Frokostretter classics for lunch. Our favourite neighbourhood? Frederiksberg with its many shops, cafés that make us happy with matcha soft ice cream and flødeboller, and art galleries where you can quickly strike up a conversation and get even more tips for Copenhagen. For example, we discovered the hidden ‘Curfew’ bar in a second-hand bookshop.
